Frequently Asked Questions:

What are the benefits?

Junior competition is a great way to meet new friends and improve your tennis. Regardless of whether you are getting coached it is also a terrific way to practise your skills and attain valuable experience in playing singles and doubles. For parents too, it’s a social occasion to watch their children compete in a friendly environment.

What if I don’t think I’m good enough to start playing competition?

You need to be at a standard where you can rally consistently at a soft to medium pace from the baseline and be able to get most of your serves in. If you don’t have much confidence you can always put your name down as an emergency, which means you only fill in occasionally but are not a regular member of a team.

What if all the other players are much better than me?

All players and teams are graded so that you will be placed into a team of players of a similar standard, against opponents of a comparable level. If you can’t score you can learn as you go and parents and other players are there to assist.

How much does it cost?

There is a nominal fee for junior club membership and ball money for the season but in comparison to other sports it represents excellent value.

What do parents do?

Usually one parent is allocated the job of team manager, which means organising who is playing during the day of each match, and transportation to and from clubs is usually shared amongst parents of players. Parents also help out with scoring if players are unsure.

What are the times and am I required to play every week?

Singles teams will commence matches at 7.45am (estimated finish by 11am) and doubles team commence at 8.45am (estimated finish by 12 noon). Teams will comprise of 5-7 players which means that players will be rotating throughout the season and you will not be required every week.
